One player, wherever you are.

Connect a touchscreen and PISONUS shows its player there when it starts. The same player opens on any phone or computer at home.

02What it plays

The music you have, from where it already is.

Web radio

A starting list of stations, your own from an M3U file or link, and search within them. The song playing shows as it changes.

CDs

Connect a USB drive and play a CD, with its album and track names.

Media servers

Browse and play the music on the DLNA/UPnP servers in your home. One queue and one set of playlists for every source.

03How it starts

Three steps, and it plays.

  1. 01

    Write the card

    Put PISONUS OS on a memory card and place it in a Raspberry Pi 3, 4 or 5.

  2. 02

    Connect the sound

    A DAC board on the Pi, or a USB DAC, into your amplifier.

  3. 03

    Join your network

    With no network yet, PISONUS opens its own Wi-Fi. Join it from your phone and choose your home network.

A Raspberry Pi, a DAC board and a 4-inch touchscreen in one case, made for a home printer: PETG, a 220 mm bed, no supports.

05Questions

Before you start.

Do I need an account?

No. PISONUS works without signing up. It counts installs anonymously; more detailed statistics can be switched off.

Do I need a screen?

No. The same player opens on any phone or computer at home, at pisonus.local. With a touchscreen connected, PISONUS shows its player there when it starts, and a QR code to open it on your phone for configuration.

Which Raspberry Pi?

The Raspberry Pi 3, 4 and 5 — one 64-bit system for all three.

Which DACs?

DAC boards from HiFiBerry, IQaudio, Audiophonics, Allo, JustBoom and AudioInjector, generic I2S boards, and USB DACs. Pick the one to play through; Automatic takes the first that is not HDMI.

What if an update goes wrong?

An update installs beside the running system and starts once on trial. If it does not come up, the Pi returns to the version before. Updates are signed, and only what changed is downloaded.
